Malice is an EVIL Gengar sentry. Spite is a wild Misdreavus. EVIL members aren't allowed to get into long-term relationships with Pokemon that aren't from EVIL (as they might give away secrets or start to rebel), so theirs is a forbidden love. Spite has no interest in joining EVIL, so that leaves Malice with the options: running away (and possibly being killed by hunting EVIL members, such as Razor) or breaking up with Spite (who is his only source of happiness in his life). By the by, Malice tends to say "Kehehe" a lot, and Spite's catchphrase is "Muwahaha!".
